Publisher Statement:
“The 8th title from photobook_daydream_editions and the 21st solo publication by Rie Suzuki was a total dream for me since I have been totally in love with Rie’s beautiful and singular work for over a decade. An elegant and off-kilter collection of photographs set to the sounds of piano bar jazz, new romantic, & space age pop.”
Artist Statement:
There is a story told without words.
It is neither a dream nor telepathy, yet its form slowly emerges, like a star map.
Softly unfolding imaginings, quietly attending to deep sorrow and subtle tremors carry me as I slip through the spaces of light, dancing along their paths.
A gaze drawn toward beauty and toward inklings not yet named quietly guides the positions of the stars.
Across time and place, a single star map was drawn. Within it, the vase in my childhood home, the scent of the city’s sea, even brief stays during travels, and the dog of a friend who lives far away- all appear as tiny points of light.
Even without knowing each other’s pasts, Andrew and I formed the same constellations.
Light drifts and flickers, a floating cluster.
To be able to draw such a star map-the universe doesn’t know yet.”
